Charge Icon During iPod Update
Dear Dr. iPod,
I updated the iTunes and iPod software as I was prompted to do so lately. Since I was done with that, there is a picture on the screen that shows the action of charging the unit as though I am being prompted to connect my iPod to the electrical socket. I had tried to rest my iPod by clicking simultaneously on the 'select' and 'menu' button for 10 seconds. I get the Apple icon appearing but then it disappears and when I try to touch any other control, I get that previous icon again prompting me to connect the unit to electricity. What does this mean?? How do I fix that?. ~igal1

How do I fix that?. ~igal1You need to give your iPod a little juice so it can complete the update. Plug your iPod into an electrical outlet, or to your computer (while it is on) to let the iPod update run its natural course. An electrical outlet is preferred.
You can also purchase one of these plugs for charging your iPod while traveling or away from your computer

ipod nano charges till itunes says its finished update. then ipod nano does not charge anymore what to do? thanks

This is a common problem (at least with Win2K ? and the Nano)-- and there is a discussion thread on the Apple iPod site. The solution is to "enable disk use" for the iPod Nano from within iTunes. The Nano will then charge.

Well, my mini has been charging for 12 freaking hours with the same icon! What am I supposed to do now? Gee, I'm sure glad I updated it, now I can't get the comp to recognize it as a device at all! It's so small it's not even an effective paper-weight at this point! Any suggestions?

I have a 4GB nano w/ Win2k. I had to do the 'Enable for Disk Use' hack in order for it to charge. Otherwise, after the update, it goes to the menu like it's not connected. The workaround is a hassle because I have to tell Windows that I'm going to disconnect. It might be because I'm using a cheap ALi USB controller, or maybe because Win2k is getting to be quite old.
