Bad iPod Won't Sync
Is your iPod being bad? Is it having problems syncing or talking to iTunes? Let's try to troubleshoot this common problem.
Here's a letter from a MethodShop.com reader named Kate:
Kate,
AutoSyncing the music from your computer back onto your iPod shouldn't be a problem. The fact that your iPod is freezing during this process means your iPod probably has an issue with its hard drive.
Hopefully your iPod's hard drive is just fragmented. An easy way to fix a number of issues with an iPod is to erase it.
If erasing your iPod doesn't work, you unfortunately could have a bad hard drive. If your iPod is still under warranty, please contact Apple about getting it replaced. If your iPod is no longer covered under warranty, please contact the guys at iPodMods.com. They not only colorize and customize iPods, but they can also replace bad parts and make repairs.

Hopefully your iPod will be back from the dead in no time.

"my ipod froze the other day and i did the online steps to unfreeze it. It did unfreeze but now i have no songs. The songs are still on my computer itunes software but not on my actual ipod. Some thing is coming up each time i connect my ipod saying something about automatically updating my ipod each time i reconnect it. And i clicked 'yes' to this the first time i reconnected after the ipod froze. I cannot get all my songs to update back onto my ipod. What can i do to get them back on. ~kate.

I just want to say thanks for the info about resetting my frozen ipod! Kick ass info and lowered my blood pressure about 20 points in the 10 seconds it took for the process to happen. My ipod froze after I had installed a new updated version of itunes. Now I got the ipod to unfreeze but now when I use it; at some point it will freeze up again. I want to know is there a way to stop the frezing completely?

Help! I just bought an iPod nano ... followed directions and when my iTunes sent me to their 'store', my computer froze and continues to do so every time I open iTunes ... suggestions? Hopefully, before I through everything through the window!!!

just the other day i was listening to my ipod and the music just stopped and froze, it still turns on but when i put it on hold and take it off all these lines cone on the screen and the ipod eventually dies out, this is how i turn it off there no other way! i tryed the unfreeze options on apple reset, retry, restart and restore but none of these work

omg thank u sooooooooooo much u guys! i was ready to take it back to best buy and have it fixed and since its past a year on the warranty i figured i would have to pay big bucks! thankssssssss so much,iam so glad i googled my prob and it came up with u! you are now my fav ipod problem site,i never had one till today!

hey, i have a limited edition Red ipod nano & it always freezes but i connect it back up to my computer and it charges it again and it works BUT now my computer doesnt realized my ipod is connected and trying to sync to itunes and my ipod WILL charge, but i cant add any more songs!! Hi, when i plug my ipod into my Mac and load itunes i get the error message something along the lines of, 'couldnt write to disk or be written to'..this happens every time i try to sync. I have downloaded the latest version of itunes and also restored my ipod (thus losing all 5000 tracks)... please help as i am absolutely desperate and am searching for an alternative to itunes if necessary.. thankyou.

i have a similar problem to jakob's ... when i plug my ipod in, it shows that it is charging but it is not recognized by "My Computer" or iTunes... HELP!

My music was deleated off my computer, and It won't sync anything aymore. I have some songs that I'd like to put onto it. But whenever I click 'sync' it doesn't do anything.
And I really don't want to have to download all my music again, as I had a lot on there.

Hi, Some songs don't fully sync on to my Ipod. Some songs go on fine but others cut out in the middle of the song and move onto the next song. Iv tried deleting the song from my Itunes and putting it back on again then re-syncing but that hasnt worked. I have loads of memory space left. Can you help?? Thanks!!! Helen.

Everyone with IPod Problems, try the erease trick. IT WORKS PERFECT. You only loose your music, but after that, it works as new.

my ipod gets stuck the moment I connect it to the computer ...and it stays that way till the battery runs out...then after I charge it again I can listen to the songs on the ipod...it makes a small rubbing noise too...I also cannot add any songs or video It says Ipod cannot be synced the reqd file cannot be found....can anybody help me with this problem??

Hey my names Brooke and im really irritated because every time i download musc from my USB onto my iPod it doesnt sync and it erases all my songs but after a while it fixes and now its not and it keeps comeing up with the following iPod "brookeyys Ipod" cannot be synced because the required file cannot be found

ok so I'm having major issues, and have been reading a million pages to try and get it figured out. My husband's I-Pod works just fine on our computer, mine however does not. the computer acknowledges it and charges it, I cannot get itunes to find it though. hlep...computer was restored (windows XP), new Itunes loaded, old itunes music reloaded off external hard drive(drag and dropped it into itunes),performed a sync but out of 1800 itunes library songs only 184 transfered to my ipod.....UGH! Am I the only one who hates Itunes!

i had to restore my ipod to the original factory settings then restore from backup... took me 3 hours. but the apps are syncing already. seems you have to restore everything first before it syncs with applications.

I have a question! I have an ipod touch. I use limewire to get my movies and music but sometimes i get movies that play on itunes but when i want to sync them to my ipod they show up on the sync list but they are light grey and will not sync? How can i get them to sync? Anyone?

My 8gb Nano has just stopped syncing. The USB ports are working but when the ipod is plugged in, it doesn't autonatically sync nor can I do it manually as the words are greyed out. I would be very grateful for any suggestions.

It took me weeks to figure out what was going on with my Ipod/Itunes. I've visited several websites and couldn't find a solution. Thank you for your clear-cut instructions.
PS: If you have tried restoring your ipod and it still won't automatically sync/manually sync then you have a hard-drive issue. Visit your nearest Apple store or an Ipod/Mac/Iphone Repair shop to get it fixed.
