Nike+iPod Shoes in Action
If you've been wondering exactly how the iPod nano works with Nike's running shoe, check out the Nike+iPod demo video below.
Your iPod nano will actually talk to you while you're running. It lets you know exactly how far you've run and how far you have left. It will even synchronizing the beat of the music to your footsteps.
Once you get back to your computer, just dock the nano and it will give you a detailed readout of your stats during the run. Pretty high-tech stuff for a sneaker! I wonder what happens if it rains while you are running.
Before you can start using your Nike+iPod kit you will need to update iTunes to version 6.0.5 or higher. iTunes 6.0.5 allows you to sync your Nike + iPod workout data to nikeplus.com, where you can easily track your progress and set training goals.
If you need fuel for your workout motivation, there's a new Nike Sport Music area on the iTunes Music Store where you can download workout mixes, Athlete Inspiration playlists and Nike Podcasts.

I find it hard to believe the crappy stock iPod headphones will stay put in your ear through all that running. I have an iPod with the stock headphoens and they barely stay in when I walk, let alone jog.
While I think that this is a cool thing, in essence, I'm wondering if they chose the shoe inlay to tie it to Nike. So that Nike can sell more products.
I'd rather buy a product that was a GPS receiver, that connects to my iPod that records GPS coordinates at 5 second intervals or something like that. That way it'd work equally well for running, skating and riding the bike, or hiking. It might be more expensive, but it doesn't have to be prohibitively expensive. It needs no memory and no screen. It just needs a GPS positioning device and an iPod connector. A quick search found one for $77 and it had a screen and buttons. So $50 might not be unresonable. That is only about twice of the Nike product.
But then again, Nike couldn't sell any shoes.
It could record your position every 5 seconds or something and with that you'd be able to reasonably well determine the distance you have travelled and the time it took. And when you come home you can plug it in and it can show you the route you took using Google Maps or some proprietary map technology.
There is so much interesting stuff you could get out of that. It could show how many calories you are spending on different parts of your route for instance. It can take uphill and downhill into consideration. It can show you where you took breaks. It could suggest alternate routes with less hills but same distance. This is just from the top of my head, but get 5 creative people in a room for 5 days and I'm sure that they can come up with a list of many much more clever applications.
Some of those services that these 5 creative people could surely be pay for use services so that could help make money for some company as well.
Now, also make a simple API so that 3rd party products can use the lists that is downloaded from the iPod and watch your 3rd party market explode and see your product move into niches that you hadn't considered yourself.
Man, who as vent cap? I'm all fired up here.

Wicked Lasers named their new flashlight the TORCH... and for good reason. The "TORCH" is technically a flashlight. It looks like a flashlight. Operates like a flashlight. But this is no ordinary flashlight. The TORCH is so bright that its beam can ignite flammable objects as fast as fire.

In a time when so-called MC's rap about their bank accounts or invent the latest dance craze to sell records, Lupe Fiasco is on the other side of the spectrum. It's refreshing to find a mainstream rapper dealing with non-commercial issues with the passion and sheer lyrical skill that Lupe exemplifies.
