Universal Music to Offer Free Downloads
even if its a proprietary format and i can’t take it off my desktop, hey, its still a winner! most of the time i just have this strong urge to listen to something NOW, while i’m using the internet or whatever on my desktop.
as long as its the full catalog (and not just a few selected artists and tracks) and its the full songs, and its not crappy sound quality, hey why not? just for desktop home listenting.

Heck, if you can download the songs for free I'll go for it, but not if the ads are too intrusive or if the files are crappy quality or crippled by DRM. Sounds good and I'm definitely looking forward to this service - but not without suspicion.
This solution is better than nothing really. Yes I'm sure someone will come up with some software or redistribute tracks...but then companies will go out of business. I like the idea of just reducing prices to say 4.99 for a album or 50 cents a single...
