Mr. Wizard R.I.P.
Don Herbert, who explained the wonderful world of science to millions children on his Nickelodeon cable TV show "Mr. Wizard's World", has died after a long battle with multiple myeloma. He was 89.Herbert used basic experiments to teach scientific principles to his TV audience via an in-studio guest boy or girl who assisted in the experiments. Herbert liked to perform his scientific experiments as "tricks" to get the kids hooked, then explain the science behind it later.
Herbert wrote several books, including "Mr. Wizard's Supermarket Science" and "Mr. Wizard's Experiments for Young Scientists."
In recent years, he helped set up his website mrwizardstudios.com.

RIP.. Mr Hebert. You were the reason I wanted a microscope and chemistry set for Xmas when I was 8 years old. If this show was on today, it would probably be construed as terrorist training. You can not even buy a decent chemistry set any more.
Mr. Wizard gave lots of kids dreams of being engineers and scientists. He gave me the wish to be a teacher. The slow, patient voice and the simple, easy to reproduce experiments, the useful information which I used all my life. His show taught me about LOGO, and lead me to my first use of a computer beyond a typewriter.
I'm so crushed by this loss. The world is a bit worse off, but if there's a heaven, it's a little more geeky today.
Remembering Mr. Wizard with love, fondness and genuine feeling. Excelsior, Sir, Excelsior.
