How to Restart a Frozen iPhone or iPod

Occasionally an iPod or iPhone may freeze or fail to respond to your commands. This can happen for a number of reasons and does not necessarily indicate a serious problem. Sometimes they just need a restart much like the way your computer needs a reset once in a while.

Restarting an iPod or iPhone is a simple procedure that will not erase any of your music, data files, or customized preferences.

Tutorial: How to Restart a Frozen iPod or iPhone

Sometimes the iPhone just gets confused. For example, the iPhone may be on but it won't respond to any button, switch, or touchscreen input. Try pressing and holding the Home button on the front of the iPhone for 6 seconds until the active program closes.

If this technique does not resolve the issue or the iPhone is in a different state such as showing a persistent Apple logo on the display, then you should reset the iPhone.

My New Ipod, to be precise 3 day young IPod Classic 80GB froze when it couldn't play a video file I uploaded. I went into a frenzy and didn't know what to do, searched on Google to look for IPod repair resources or service stations...I just happened to click on this site without much hope of getting an answer from an online support site!!!
However to my greatest surprise, your site is the best...its better than even IPods help center!

Just wanted to thank you for making me look like the coolest mom in the world! My son inherited an ipod nano from his older brother. He promptly dropped it and it stop working. I found your website, learned how to reset the ipod and became an instant hero.

Whoever wrote this little helper just saved somebodies life, I swear to god I was gonna kill the guy who sold me my Ipod, mainly because he said something along the lines of "Most up to date peice of technology that 'just works' "

The instructions were so easy to follow and straight forward!! there were no big words used that would just be confusing which was great!! my Ipod is fixed now thank you soooo much!! it was my friends and i couldnt tell her i had broken it . . . and now she never has to know =D FANTASTIC!!!!!!!

hey MethodShop! I just wanted to say thanks for helping me fix my ipod! It was frozen, and another guy at a store told me to plug it in, and if it didnt restart i would have to go get it fixed. well, i plugged it in, and nothing happened and i freaked out and thought that my ipod was fried! but then i found your website, followed the directions, and my ipod was alive again in no time! And your page was so easy to use and straight-forward, i owe my ipod's life (and some money that i would have spent trying to fix it) to you guys! thanks so much!!!
