Apple Market Share Surpasses 10%

According to NetApplications and Computerworld, the total number of Windows users decreased in December 2008 by 0.94% to 88.7%. As a result of this Microsoft decline, Apple's total share of the operating system market is now over 10%. This is the first time Apple has breached the 10% mark in decades.
Comparing new Apple users is even more impresive. Mac OS X's 2008 market share grew by 31.7% compared to 2007.
Apparently a lot of people woke up Christmas morning to find a new Apple computer under the tree.

There has been a lot of debate and some down-right hatred of windows vista buzzing about, as I am sure you are well aware. I would like to take a moment to give my personal views of this newest windows operating system.
First off let me state that I decided to try Vista because Windows XP would randomly "Blue Screen" and would not allow me to play even the most basic of "full screen" games. Now some might say, "Well that is an obvious hardware issue." others might say "That is a driver issue." and still others might say "Definitely a virus." I addressed all those issues and none helped, not even slightly. My only option was to re-install the operating system, and when I say re-install I don't mean a recovery, I mean a complete wipe of the hard drive and then installing the OS. Since I had been wanting to try vista anyway I decided this would be the perfect opportunity.
Though the install took considerably longer than XP does it all went without a hitch. Once the install was complete I went through the arduous task of installing all of my most needed software, and of course, my games. I no longer have a problem with the blue screening. There are some things that do annoy me about this operating system though, for instance, sometimes it will not let me delete folders without re-booting into safe mode and deleting them. The Nvidia control panel that I like does not work in vista, which is not Vistas fault but it is because of Vista that it will not work. I have not had any problems with applications not working (other than the Nvidia control panel), and am actually impressed with this operating system. The new GUI (graphic user interface) is pleasing to the eye and easy to navigate. My computer runs faster using Vista, which leads me to believe that it handles resources better. Many say that Vista is a resource hog, I do not see this at all. I have not done any benchmarking so I cannot say for certain that Vista performs better than XP but it seems like it does to me, and isn't that what's important?
Surprisingly enough, most of the people that I have talked to that dislike Vista have not really even used it other than on a friends computer, briefly. In my experience you have to spend at least a few days working with an operating system, from a fresh install, to get an accurate assessment. The learning curve of operating systems is usually the culprit for all the hate that they get. I have not yet known of an operating system that Microsoft has released that didn't become the subject of huge debate, and I doubt that this will change anytime soon.
My final assessment: Vista is a solid operating system with very few flaws compared to other Microsoft operating systems. For basic usage it has a very smooth learning curve. If you get into more advanced usage the curve gets pretty steep and this can be very frustrating. This operating system seems to be designed to be used as-is and is not as easy as XP to tweak to your specific needs. I am sure time will change this as more and more programs will be written to mold Vista into what users want it to be.
I most certainly prefer Vista over XP.
