He’s set to announce, appear in comedy bits
Conan O’Brien’s getting help from an old friend when he takes up the new job this summer.
Andy Richter will join “The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien” as the show’s announcer, NBC announced Tuesday afternoon. It will be the first time the two have worked together daily since Richter left “Late Night With Conan O’Brien” nine years ago.
“The Tonight Show With Conan O’Brien” begins June 1 from a newly constructed studio; O’Brien left his “Late Night” perch last week to get ready.
Richter will not only announce but also be in comedic pieces, the network said.
O’Brien said that he has remained close friends with Richter since May 2000, when the latter left “Late Night” on a daily basis.
“We have a proven chemistry that will be an incredible asset to ‘The Tonight Show,’ ” O’Brien said. “I’m looking forward to working with Andy on a daily basis again, particularly since he owes me $300.”
Richter was O’Brien’s comedic sidekick on “Late Night” from 1993 when the show began to 2000. He has been an actor and writer since then, with shows on Fox and NBC as well as movies.
