Unlike the iPod Shuffle,
other iPods and the iPhone have a LCD screen that allows us to navigate various
functions and features. But what happens when your screen
stops working, cracks or starts acting up?
"I
purchased an iPod a couple
of months ago from eBay for my daughter. She
tells me the LCD is not working. The backlight works,
it plays music and the click wheel works, but you can't
see playlist, files etc. Any help would be great." ~

1) First off, is the screen of your iPod or iPhone cracked? If so, there's nothing you can do at home to fix it. You need to either have Apple replace the device or send it out to a repair specialist. If the screen was cracked when you first took it out of the box, then you can get a warranty replacement. But be advised, accidental/physical damage is not covered under warranty by Apple... half the reason people feel so negatively over subjects such as this is because they are misinformed. If your warranty has expired for your iPod or iPhone, or the cracked screen is your fault, then try our VIP iPod Repair Service.
2) If the screen isn't shattered, but just not turning on properly, then there's hope. Let's try a simple reset with your iPod/iPhone. If your device has no juice,
you may have to attach it to a power source to make this work.
3) Is there a weird folder icon or sad face on your iPod? If so there check out our iPod Icon 101 article.
4) Was
someone messing around with the Contrast settings? If so, the
Contrast may be set so low that
you can't see the information on the iPod's screen. The only way
to reset your iPod back to the factory defaults (including the
Contrast setting) is to let the battery drain all the way out.
Do whatever it takes to let the battery die then let the iPod
sit overnight to be safe. Then the next morning, charge
the battery and turn the iPod on. The first thing you should
see is a screen asking you to select your language. If you can
see your screen now, congratulations, this did the trick. If not,
you probably need a new screen.
4) If your iPod is still
under warranty, go to the AppleCare iPod Support Page to arrange
for service http://depot.info.apple.com/iPod/.
