While
Ben's

seems appealing, picking the color scheme for your iPod is not
an easy process. I came up with a few different configurations
for my LCD and touch buttons. An early favorite of mine was a
Dark Side of the Moon theme with a white screen and rainbow colored
buttons like the Pink
Floyd album cover. I also contemplated a Matrix
Revolutions drone design with a red LCD and all blue buttons.
As you can imagine, even with a limited color selection, the
possibilities are vast.
Here's
a list of all the configurations I came up with while brainstorming:

In
the end, I decided on an Italian color configuration: a bright white LCD
with Italy's flag colors - green, white and red for the buttons.
I couldn't be happier. Now that my iPod glows with an Italian aura,
when there's an iPod traffic jam on my desk, it's pretty easy
to figure out which one is mine.
If you
don't have the stomach to pay someone to crack open your perfectly
working iPod and mess with it, you are not alone. It is quite similar
to getting a tattoo; your color configuration will forever be with your
iPod. One should also consider the costs involved. To disassemble the
iPod and solder new pieces inside is not exactly cheap. But if your iPod
needs repair, you might consider getting some mods done while it is already
under the knife. As mentioned earlier, iPodMods does more than just colored
lights. Your dead battery, hard drive, cracked screen or even a torn ribbon
can all be replaced.
| "iPod
repair, like open-heart surgery, takes a skilled surgeon. One wrong
move on the operating table and you can lose the patient." |
Inside
the iPod is a ribbon cable that connects the LCD screen to
the logic board. According to Ben at iPodMods.com, "a
lot of people who try to replace their batteries themselves
end up tearing the ribbon cable that connects the logic board
to the battery. Cracking open an iPod is a skill that requires
patience, practice and some really solid soldering skills." iPod
repair, like open-heart surgery, takes a skilled surgeon. One
wrong move on the operating table and you can lose the patient.
Luckily, iPodMods offers a complete guarantee for all their
work.
As scary
as a torn ribbon cable might sound, Ben says the engineers at iPodMods
have seen much worse on their operating tables. "We do get those
occasional iPods in with a note that says: 'Run over by car, LCD needs
replacement.' Or some come in with what looks like hammer dents in
the back that are completely crushed with no hope at all. We fix iPods,
not clumps of metal."
As
the iPod's popularity continues to skyrocket, so does the potential
customer base for iPodMods. The iPod's grip on the portable mp3
player market is tight and unphased by cheap knockoffs and imitators.
Clearly the iPod is here to stay and more popular than ever. One cannot
even walk a Manhattan city block without seeing a pair of trademark ‘white
headphones' poking out of someone's ears. But everybody is
different. We all look different, come from different cultures and even
have different musical tastes. It is just part of being you. We customize
everything in our lives to our own personal tastes. Everything from a
tattoo to the way we like our coffee in the morning is unique to us. And
with the new wave of electronic customization even your iPod's appearance
can be customized to your own taste and style. Mine is.
