Created: 02/14/2009 Updated: 05/06/2009 Authors: Staff

imageDon't have an iPhone or iPod Touch? As long as you have a "click wheel" model iPod, you can still play games from the iTunes Store. Unfortunately your selection is dramatically reduced compared to the App Store, but there are still some good games available like Bejeweled, Sims Bowling and Texas Hold'em.

Here's the complete list of iPod Click Wheel Games available in the iTunes Store (as of April 2009):

Requirements:

    • An account with the iTunes Store
    • Any "click wheel" iPod.

Chinese Checkers
Chinese Checkers: Hark Back

It originated in Germany, not China, but Chinese Checkers will easily find a home on your iPod, where you'll get to relive those halcyon days of childhood, when playing a board game might be the most strenuous thing you'd do all weekend. Play against one to five live opponents or the computer.

Trivial Pursuit
Trivial Pursuit: Answers Lie Within

Trivial Pursuit on the iPod recreates that classic board game with 1,000 questions spread across six categories: Geography, Arts & Literature, Sports & Leisure, Science & Nature, Entertainment, and History. Play against friends or the computer in Classic mode and more.

Wonder Blocks
Wonder Blocks: Wonders Never Cease

You've been recruited to rebuild the world's seven Wonders - including the Egyptian Pyramids, the Taj Mahal, and Chichen Itza - but to do so, you'll need to carefully build towers made of blocks of various shapes. Don't let it tilt too far to one side and keep an eye on the rising flood waters.

Reversi
Reversi: Flip It

The game seems deceptively simple: Just place a piece on the board and flip a series of your opponent's pieces to your color. As a Reversi match progresses, however, the complexity of the strategy increases: each possible move has many ramifications.

Lode Runner
Lode Runner: Puzzles in the Gold Mine

Another classic comes to the iPod. Play this updated version of Lode Runner - in which you must dig holes to trap robots, collect all the gold, and head for the escape ladder leading to the next level - and discover why Tetris creator Alexei Pajitnov praises it.

Real Soccer 2009
Real Soccer 2009: Bend It

Take control of one of more than 290 clubs and national teams, guiding it to a first-place trophy in a cup or league - choose from four cups, five national leagues, and 10 club leagues. Survey a roster full of real players from around the world and more.

Asphalt 4: Elite Racing
Asphalt 4: Elite Racing: Eat My Dust

Travel to seven cities around the world and compete in challenges that include basic races, catch the leader, and more. Nitro boosts give you much-needed acceleration, but they'll also help attract the attention of the police. Evade the law and finish races to unlock new cities, and more.

Tamagotchi: ‘Round the World
Tamagotchi: 'Round the World

Those popular digital creatures want to seek out new worlds where they can play. Choose one of four Tamagotchi and travel to three planets as you complete six missions full of mini-games and other activities. Play rock, paper, scissors, perform rain dances, toss around a beach ball, and more.

iPod Games: Star Trigon

iPod Games: SPORE Origins
SPORE Origins: Begin Again

You've evolved a species from single-celled organism to space-faring empire in SPORE. Now relive the first stage of that journey on your iPod. Travel through 18 levels of prehistoric predators and prey, chomping smaller creatures, avoiding bigger ones, and evolving your spore.

iPod Games: Chalkboard Sports Baseball

Slip a pinball machine in your pocket and enjoy a rousing game of balls and flippers any time. Deep within this haunted house, you'll find a variety of modes, including five mini-games, that you can activate by hitting certain targets in the right combination.

iPod Games: UNO
UNO: One, Then None

A variation on the Crazy Eights theme, UNO challenges you to discard your hand before everyone else. Make sure you call out "Uno!" when you drop your penultimate card, though, or someone can force you to draw two. Think strategically when playing your Reverse, Skip, and other action cards.

iPod Games: Song Summoner: The Unsung Heroes
Song Summoner: Music Will Set Them Free

Now you can play one of the most popular board games in history on your iPod. Fire up Scrabble and take on up to three human opponents or the computer, with three levels of difficulty available. A built-in dictionary acts as final arbitrator on all words.

The next time you want to get away from it all, visit tropical Bubble Island to bash bubbles, pop balloons, and win prizes. Just watch out for meddlesome birds, aggressive spiders, and other critters. Choose the role of Kale or Malia as you play through the more than 100 levels.

Pirates of the Caribbean: Aegir’s Fire

Bomberman
Bomberman: An Explosive Situation

This classic game comes to the iPod with an exclusive final boss confrontation, along with 20 levels of bomb-planting mayhem and three mini-games: Bowling for Bombs, Bomb Buster, and Bomb Rollin'. Power-ups give you an edge as our eponymous hero seeks to escape.

Peggle
Peggle: Don't Just Leave it to Chance

Bounce the ball off the pegs, trying to eliminate all the orange ones while also hitting green ones for power-ups and purple ones for bonus points. The objective seems simple, but when you only have 12 balls to complete a level and the orange pegs are hard to reach, you need a dose of strategy.

Sonic The Hedgehog
Sonic The Hedgehog: Grab the Rings

Sega's classic game Sonic the Hedgehog comes to the iPod with all of the original's gameplay intact, including 19 levels full of rings and power-ups to grab, enemies to defeat, and showdowns against the evil Dr. Robotnik. Help Sonic run, jump, and spin his way to victory.

Tetris
Tetris: The Pieces Fall Into Place

Ms. PAC-MAN
Ms. PAC-MAN: All in the Family

The Sims Pool
The Sims Pool: Rack 'Em Up

This time, your Sims are looking to shoot a little 8- and 9-ball, as well as complete tricky challenges that run the gamut from two balls sunk in two shots to four balls pocketed with just one shot. Build your Sim's aspiration meter to unlock cool stuff in the SimShop.

The Sims Bowling
The Sims Bowling: Knock 'Em Down

Mini Golf
Mini Golf: Putt For Show

Set a tee time with Mini Golf for the iPod. Three 18-hole courses, each with a different theme, challenge you to apply geometry and physics as you try to knock the ball in the cup with as few strokes as possible. Can you figure out how to attain 54 holes-in-one?

Zuma
Zuma: Chain Reactions are Key

Fire red, blue, green, and yellow marbles into the chain advancing toward you and eliminate groups of three or more of the same color. Eliminate power-up marbles to get special bonuses, such as better aim or the chain moving slower, and clear the screen.

Cubis 2
Cubis 2: Stack It Up

The "match three and drop them from the board" paradigm is a staple of many puzzle games, but Cubis 2 takes the concept to a new dimension, literally. In this fast-paced game where you're up against the clock, colors can match up, down, and across.

PAC-MAN
PAC-MAN: A Classic Reborn

The object of the game is simple, but mastery of it is difficult. Eat all the dots and advance to the next level. You lose a life if a ghost touches you, but you can eat them for a brief period of time after munching one of the four power-ups found in the maze.

Bejeweled
Bejeweled: A Rich Experience

It's only fitting that one of the most popular puzzle games of all time - the first to be inducted into Computer Gaming World's Hall of Fame since Tetris - is available for the iPod. This version of Bejeweled brings with it the classic gameplay you've come to love.

NERD NOTE: The iPod click-wheel is the navigation component of the device that uses both touch technology and traditional buttons to let a user find their music, videos, and photos. The wheel lies flat on the face of the iPod, directly underneath the screen.
