Welcome to a twisted world where the drivers are insane, the explosions apocalyptic and the weapons are hard core. The Twisted Metal series is the ultimate automobile combat simulation for the PlayStation. Although the Twisted Metal series produced several sequels, Twisted Metal 2 is considered to be the best by many experienced gamers.
My college roommates and I used to play this game after coming home from the bars until the wee hours of the morning. Sure we had a bunch of other fun "drunk friendly" 2 player games, like Tekken and Cool Borders 2, but Twisted Metal 2 was our favorite. There was just something about the dark nature of the game that kept us glued to the TV set. Getting in cars and attempting to destroy the rest of them in exotic locations like New York or Paris was just plain out fun. Twisted Metal 2 is still a blast to play after all these years and is easily one of my favorite games of all time.
In concept, Twisted Metal 2 is a demolition derby which permits the usage of ballistic projectiles. Players choose a vehicle and an arena to engage in battle with opposing drivers. A variety of weapons and upgrades are obtainable by pick-ups scattered throughout the stage. The last driver alive is the winner.
For some reason the subsequent titles in this series like Twisted Metal 3 and Twisted Metal Black never quite lived up to the all around fun of Twisted Metal 2. It's a classic title that every PlayStation owner should have in their collection.
