Stop Throwing Cheese Sign [pic]

Whatever happened to 'good' old-fashioned anti-neighbor vandalism? You know, toilet papering trees, throwing eggs, taking all the parking spots, throwing your dog's poop under their fence, etc.

But cheese throwing!?

Isn't cheese a little expensive to be throwing around? What's next? Steak? Olives? Caviar?

And you thought you had odd neighbors?

Microsoft Poland - Spot the Difference! [pic]

If you've ever played one of those photohunt video games in a bar before, then you'll love this picture. Here are two screen grabs from Microsoft's websites. The American version is on the left. Poland on the right. There's one major difference between the two photos. Do you see it yet?

larger view

Yep. The African American guy in the middle was swapped out for a Caucasian with a contorted neck. It's obviously a very sloppy Photoshop job. Not only are the shadows and light sources in the wrong places, but the guy's hand is still black. There are so many thing wrong with this picture. By the way the white laptop on the table isn't even a PC. It's a MacBook with the Apple logo airbrushed out.

UPDATE: Yesterday Microsoft issued a statement appolgizing for superimposing the image. "We apologize and are in the process of pulling down the image," Microsoft spokesperson Lou Gellos said in a statement. "We are looking into the details of this situation."

Grandpa Busted Googling Asian Escorts in Apple Store [pic]

Looks like Grandpa is more interested in Asian escorts than the iPhone. This elderly gentleman was recently observed testing out some equipment in an Apple Store... and he came prepared. In front of the iMac's keyboard is the classifieds section from a newspaper. It's difficult to make out exactly what Grandma was reading in the newspaper, but there's no question what he was Googling on the Internet. Just take a look at his display: Asian Escorts. Apparently an ad for an Asian escort service in the newspaper caught his eye.

Although the display computers in an Apple Store offer free Internet access, it's probably not a good idea to surf sensitive websites while you're there. Unless you really want someone to take a picture of you surfing for Asian Escorts and post it on Reddit.

Moon People: Best First Page of Any Book Ever [pic]

It's called "Moon People". And it may just be the Snakes on a Plane of the book world. Dale M. Courtney is the "writer" of this particular opus, but after reading the first page of "Moon People", you may be wondering - Was Peter Griffin from Family Guy Courtney's editor? The ridiculous plot aside, the book is filled with rAndOm caPitalizatioNs, odd sentence structure and an abusive use of a'post'ro'phe's.

"Moon People" won't be getting a Pulitzer, but the book's "unique" writing style has certainly captured the attention of the Internets. People are blogging, tweeting and Digging it. Although negative, all this attention can't be bad for sales.

Wouldn't it be funny if "Moon People" became a Twitter phenomenon and a New York Times bestseller?

Be sure to read some of the Amazon.com reviews of "Moon People." They are literally LOL.

Google Street View: Getting Laid Edition [pic]

Google has been known to capture controversial images with their Google Earth satellites and Google Street View camera before. Since it was launched in 2007, Google Street View has drawn complaints from individuals and institutions (including the Pentagon) that have been photographed. When you are photographing the entire planet, you are bound to capture a few embarrassing moments.

For example, let's examine the images here of a half-naked girl talking to a guy in a van. The images were captured by a Google Street View car just south of Madrid, Spain (GoogleSightseeing).

What exactly are we looking at here? Is she a "working girl"? Hold on! Let's not jump to conclusions. Maybe it was a really hot day and this young lady was just looking for an ice cream truck. Maybe there's a pool nearby. Or maybe it's laundry day and the only thing clean was her orange thong. And maybe the guy in the dirty windowless van is just asking for directions... maybe not.

Want more? Whores in Madrid are just the beginning! Here are some more things Google has captured on camera:

Sorry - Kissing Not Allowed! [pic]

Late for work again? Blame it on the kissers. In an effort to streamline pedestrian traffic flow, the Warrington Bank Quay Train Station in the UK has banned couples from kissing. The station's managers say that kissing delays other commuters and holds up traffic. The no kissing signs are part of a £650,000 station refurbishment.

So what happens if you are caught locking lips in a no-kissing zone? Do you get slapped on the lips with a fine? Well... not exactly.

According to Colin Daniels, chief executive of the Warrington Chamber of Commerce, the signs are just a "bit of fun" and "they may seem frivolous but there is a serious message underneath." The Warrington Station has become increasingly busy since introducing the Pendolino and Super Voyager trains. The signs are just a lighthearted way to keep pedestrian traffic moving along at the station.

If you've been in a Malaysian taxi recently, you might have seen their signs banning kissing. Kissers beware! Unlike at the Warrington Station, the Malaysian signs are no joke. You will get fined in Malaysia.

How Russians Play Pac-Man [pic]

Pac-Man really is a timeless cultural icon. The 1980's classic arcade game continues to inspire people around the world from stop motion animators and sculpters to Russian explorers.

The photo above of Pac-Man and Inky (the ghost) was taken outside of Moscow. This wasn't a Pac-Man gorilla marketing campaign or publicity stunt. It's just two Russian guys doing some exploring. Maybe they'll explore the local Moscow bar scene. Who knows, after a couple bottles of Vodka, they might look like the real thing.

Happy Hoff Day

Back in the 1980's, David Hasselhoff was cool incarnate. His acting role in the hugely successful NBC TV series Knight Rider made him an international mega star. Since the 1980s Hoff's had a Top 40 music career in Europe, starred in another hit TV show Baywatch, acted on Broadway, been a judge on the reality series America's Got Talent and he even had a cameo role on the 2008 TV version of Knight Rider.

As you can imagine, after such a high profile career spanning over 3 decades, Hasselhoff has partaken in many a cheesy photo shoot. In Hoff's defense, most of the embarrassing photos were taken during the 1980's or in Europe. But many of these photos are very questionable and a few are actually quite disturbing.

We hope these Hoff photos make you feel all warm inside this Valentine's Day. Without any further adieu, we present the most embarrassing Hasselhoff photos of all time. Enjoy.

LARP Nerds Busted by Google Street View

It's not everyday that you see some guys dressed up as medieval knights fighting on a sidewalk... unless you live outside Pittsburgh (congrats Steelers by the way!).

Google has been known to capture some oddities with their cameras before. Between their special Street View Cars and high-resolution satellite images, Google might have the most thorough record of life on Earth ever collected. But when you are photographing the entire planet, you are bound to find some oddities here and there, not to mention lots of embarrassing stuff.

Unfortunately, these two guys were dressed up and having a LARP battle at the exact moment the Google Street View car was driving around Pittsburgh taking pictures. In case you aren't familiar with the term (please don't feel bad if you aren't), LARP stands for live action role-playing game. So the guys in the image above are basically acting out a live version of a World of Warcraft game... in public.

Here's link to the Google Street View interface for this LARP photo if you want to check out the rest of the neighborhood. If you pan a little to the left you'll see a guy riding a bike. He's clearly confused by the LARP fight.

Want more? Pittsburgh LARP battles are just the beginning! Here are some more things Google has captured on camera:

Sorry Star Wars fanboys, stop putting together your LEGO Millennium Falcons and get ready change your pants. Seriously, that's how excited fans are to see these early Star Wars storyboards.

Not only do the early sketches of The Millennium Falcon look like a fancy tube of toothpaste, but the legendary ship is even generically referred to as the "Pirate Ship."

Most Beautiful Goat [pic]

Say hello to the winner of Saudi Arabia's first "Most Beautiful Goat" competition. Hundreds of Najdi goats and their owners from all over the Persian Gulf converged in Riyadh last week, hoping to win the prize for "Most Beautiful" male and female goat. Spectators were not only treated to spectacular views of Najdi goats, but were also serenaded by poets who recited verses in praise of the goats over loudspeakers.

Isn't she lovely?

Why? What's all the hype about? Najdi goats are the thoroughbreds of the goat world. Prize Najdi goats sell for more than $26,000 each. Plus, female beauty contests are banned in Saudi Arabia. Guys need to ogle over something right?

Unfortunately this might be the first and last goat beauty contest. In November 2007, an administrator at Saudi Arabia's school of Islam condemned camel beauty contests as evil and suggested those involved seek repentance from Allah. A condemnation of the goat beauty contest probably isn't far behind.

20 Classic Films Recreated in LEGO [pics]

When a LEGO creation makes the front page of Digg.com, it's usually because of the project's massive size. For example, the giant LEGO tower built in the UK this past summer or the release of the biggest and most expensive LEGO set of all time, the 24 pound Star Wars Millennium Falcon ($500). But this time, it's the LEGO creativity, not the scale, that's getting all the attention.

The Toy Zone blog has assembled pictures of 20 famous movie scene recreations using LEGOs. Normally, any sort of top 10/20/50 list is loathed on Digg.com, but who can resist a headline like "20 Classic Films Recreated in LEGO"?

In addition to the Titanic, LEGO recreations were made for such movie classics as Creep Show, Iron Giant, Casablanca and The Matrix. You can see all 20 LEGO movie recreations at TheToyZone.com.

I wonder if Nathan Sawaya was behind any of this.

Microsoft IE Team Sends Firefox A Cake [pic]

Mozilla engineers shipped Firefox 3.0 this week to much praise and accolades from bloggers and tech columnists across the Interweb (except for some initial download issues). But Mozilla also got a strange congratulations gift from their main competitor in the web browser wars... Microsoft.

Microsoft's Internet Explorer development team sent their Firefox counterparts a congratulatory cake for their launch of Firefox 3. The cake was delivered in person by some Microsoft employees and Mozilla CEO, John Lilly, proudly took the cake around and displayed it for his staff before he let them devour the cake.

Mozilla employee Al Billings holds the IE cake.

Apparently this is becoming a tradition. Microsoft sent Mozilla a cake back in October 2006 to congratulate them on shipping Firefox 2.0.

You have to give Microsoft credit for having a good sense of humor about their eroding market share. Recent reports give Firefox ~40% of the web browser market. Not bad for an application that's only 3 years old.

You can download Firefox 3 here.

    Chuck Norris Action Jeans [pic]

Here's a 1980s magazine ad for Chuck Norris' Action Jeans. The jeans were specially designed for "stunt fighting" and have a "unique hidden gusset which allows for greater movement without binding or ripping".

    WTF?

Anyway, what exactly is a "gusset"? We looked it up.

A gusset is a device, often triangular, used to reinforce a connection between two components. Gussets are commonly used in engineering, sewing, armour and Chuck Norris' pants I guess.

Digg.com user CiscoNoShut owned a pair of these "Action Jeans" back in 1981 and had this to say about the special "gusset" feature.

"I ordered the first pair back in 1981, they looked the same except they had a lace-up front instead of zipper and button or snap"

So let's review. What did we learn from Chuck today? Basically a gusset in the crotch of his jeans allows the wearer to do karate kicks without ripping a hole in the crotch or crushing your balls like regular jeans would. Because roundhouse kicks and ball crushing jeans are common problems any real man faces on a daily basis.

If you look closely, you might notice that the sculpture is made almost entirely out out of tin cans. Actually thousands of cans. The World’s Most Famous Photoshop Fakes

All professional photographs are usually touched-up a tiny bit. Sometimes specks of dust need to be removed, maybe the image needs a little bit of color correction or even a dose of red eye reduction.

Then there are images that get completely 'shopped (aka Photoshopped). For example, look at the terrible image of Oprah to the right from a 1989 issue of TV Guide. Oprah's head doesn't even look natural transplanted on Ann-Margret's body. It's ridiculous!

While "Photoshopping" an image might be a creative opportunity for artistic photographers and designers, for news editors, it can all be a bit of a nightmare once the public finds out.

Largest Hand in the World [PIC]

Lui Hua can't play the Nintendo Wii or Guitar Hero. He really wants to, but he physically can't.... at least not yet. Why? Hua suffers from a rare condition known as macrodactyly. When he was hospitalized in Shanghai last month (July 2007), his left thumb measured 10.2 inches and his index finger measured close to 12.

    From The Shanghai Daily:
"It was the biggest hand in the world," said Chen Zuliang, a hospital official. "Liu’s fingers stopped growing in recent years so plastic surgery was at last possible to correct the malformation."

On July 20 surgeons undertook a seven-hour operation to reduce the size of Liu’s fingers and thumb. Doctors removed 11 pounds of flesh and bone in the procedure. A second surgery is scheduled to take place. Enlarged limbs can be caused by a number of medical conditions. Lymphedema is perhaps the most common cause and results in some extraordinarily enlarged limbs.

How NOT to Ship a HDTV [pics]

The person who packed up and shipped this TV must have been a professional... idiot. They might as well have shipped this poor HDTV using bowling balls or rocks as padding.

For future reference, here's a photo tutorial on how NOT to ship a Plasma or LCD HDTV.

    Fast Food: Ads vs Reality

Here's a photo comparison of fast food items and their advertising images. Each item was purchased, taken home, and photographed immediately. Nothing was tampered with, run over by a car, or anything of the sort. It is an accurate representation in every case. Shiny, neon-orange, liquefied pump-cheese, and all...

    Giant Bugs [pics]

Bugs tend to freak us out. Mosquitoes, spiders, wasps, centipedes... you name it. If it crawls, bites or buzzes (especially anywhere near our faces), then we squirm, swat and run. But what's worse than a little bug crawling on, or biting you? How about a really, really big one?

    Ogled with Google

Maxim Magazine celebrated their 100th issue in a BIG BIG way. They decided to print a massive 75-by-110-foot billboard of their January 2006 magazine cover featuring Eva Longoria (Desperate Housewives).

However, you won't see this 75-by-110-foot billboard in Times Square or while driving down the highway. It's laying flat on the ground in the middle of the Nevada desert and can only be seen from the air or by satellite. If you are having trouble picturing what a 75-by-110-foot billboard would look like, just take a look at the image to the right. If you look carefully, you can see a tiny pickup truck parked under Eva Longoria. The poor guys in the truck are probably responsible for sweeping the sand off the billboard everyday.

In case you are wondering, the tagline printed above the Maxim cover says "The only magazine big enough to be seen from space - and only in Vegas!"

If you have Google Earth (Mac or PC) installed on your computer, click on this KML link to check it out. Otherwise, if you are in Las Vegas during the next week or so, rent a hot air balloon and fly it into the desert. The billboard is located just outside the town of Primm, near the California state line. Have fun.

Comet Craters Found with Google Earth

Emilio Gonzalez found two asteroid craters.

He didn't use a special satellite, NASA telescope or anything only available to high level scientists. Believe it or not, Emilio began his asteroid impact search with a home computer and a free satellite imaging program called Google Earth.

After reading an article about an asteroid crater in the Middle East called Kebira, Emilio decided to get a closer look at the crater for himself. He launched the Google Earth application and pointed it towards the Egypt/Libya border. Sure enough, after a couple minutes he found the Kebira crater. He studied the shape of the crater and then decided to check out the rest of the area.

After a quick search Emilio located two more craters. Did anyone else know about these craters? He decided to check an earth impact database. But there was no record of them. No one had reported these craters before. Was this really possible? Emilio was still unsure of the validity of his findings and asked a few experts to check out the craters for themselves... Believe it or not, two geologists have confirmed his findings. Emilio actually found two asteroid craters using only Google Earth.

Is it really possible for the average person to make a major scientific discovery using just their home computer? It's hard to believe, but yes.

Emilio was amazed as everyone else was. "It could not be so easy! Was I suffering such excitement that I was seeing impact craters everywhere?" he said.

Just think, Google Earth can make you famous. All it takes is a keen eye and the patience to cross check your findings. Want to follow in Emilio's footsteps? Think you might have found a crater impact? Here's a few tips to help you avoid "crying wolf" with geologists.

    1) Make sure you cross check any potential impacts with the impact crater database from the University of New Brunswick, Canada.

    2) Avoid confusing asteroid craters with volcanos. According to Fernando Claudin, one of the curators of Impact-Structures.com, "Circularity doesn't mean anything by itself for identifying an impact structure." Anything from a landfill to a volcano could have a circular shape. When searching for asteroid craters, you want the layers of the external ring to be inclined outwards and the internal ring to have a central elevation.

    3) Still think you found something? Organize our findings and contact your local geologist.

    Good luck.

    Biggest PSP on Earth

Compared to most portable video players, the Sony PSP may be a little on the larger size. But at least it's not visible by satellite... or is it?

Here's an interesting Google Maps find by a website called Scavengeroogle. Is that a swimming pool or a PSP?

You can access the above location on Google Maps [here].

Paris Hilton's Sidekick Phone Gets Hacked

According to The Drudge Report, Paris Hilton's T-Mobile Sidekick cellphone was hacked and all its contents, from celebrity cell phone numbers to nude photos, were posted on the Internet.

Paris' Sidekick buddies from the T-Mobile commercials (Snoop, Wayne Newton, Wee-Man, etc.) might want to think twice before handing out their numbers again to Ms. Hilton.

One angry celeb grunted to Drudge, "I gave her my number after we met in Miami, I did not know she f**king kept it on her cellphone!"

After recieving a flood of phone calls from curious fans, scores of A-list celebrities, including  Lindsay Lohan, Christina Aguilera, Andy Roddick, Victoria Gotti, Vin Diesel, Eminem, Anna Kournikova, and Ashlee Simpson, are now all scrambling to change their cell phone numbers.

But the address book is the least of Hilton's problems. The hacker was also able to download all of Hilton's personal cell phone photos, including several of her engaging in sexual acts with another woman.
