Adobe Photoshop Cook [video]
Here are some lovely butter cookies made with Adobe's new Photoshop Cook software! We wish. The video is actually a clever stop motion animation created for the AdobeYouGC competition. The ingredients? A camera, cardboard, kitchen utensils and a lot of free time. If only real life had an Undo key.

Microsoft to Patch 17-Year-Old Computer Bug

Better late than never? Last month, a 17 year-old bug was found in the Microsoft operating system. The Redmond based company certainly isn't known for secure, bug free or virus proof software... but this is ridiculous. The bug exploits a loophole in the DOS operating system via the VDM subsystem. VDM allows Windows NT and later to run DOS and 16-bit Windows software.
While the bug is 17 years old, it was only found recently. Who found it? A member of Microsoft's software team? A security consultant? Nope. Their biggest rival, Google! Tavis Ormandy, a Google security researcher found the bug. Google has been tightening security after they were attacked last month in China.
Well done Microsoft! *applauds*
Windows 3.1 was released on Apr. 6, 1992. Sales of Windows 3.1 fueled Microsoft's revenues to surge by 55% and helped the company establish itself as a global software leader.

Someone quit today. We found this on his desktop [pic]
| . |
We found this screengrab on Reddit this morning. Apparently the person who quit was unhappy with his job and chose to inform the company via a custom Macintosh OS X application.
Assumetehposition, a former co-worker of the guy who quit, submitted the screengrab to Reddit and posted the following explanation in the comments thread.
"He believed he was in a temp-to-hire position, and after three months of extra hours and butt-kissing, turns out it's just a temp position. He was a good worker too. I'd have recommended him. Too bad he burned his bridges... Obviously he had contemplated quitting long enough to make this thing, but still refused to speak to anyone about his feelings. Ironically, he complained about the 'divas' at his last job."
What do you think? Diva designer? Passive-aggressive? Regardless of what really happened, we still think it's a pretty clever way to quit.

NASA App for iPhone

Good news space nerds. NASA just released an app for the iPhone and iPod Touch. The application is available free of charge in the iTunes App Store.
Here's a quote from the official press released posted on the U.S. Air Force's website:
"Making NASA more accessible to the public is a high priority for the agency," said Gale Allen, director of Strategic Integration and Management for NASA's Exploration Systems Mission Directorate in Washington. "Tools like this allow us to provide users easy access to NASA information and progress at a fast pace."
The NASA App also allows users to track the current positions of the International Space Station and other spacecraft currently orbiting Earth in three views: a map with borders and labels, visible satellite imagery, or satellite overlaid with country borders and labels.
For more information about NASA's iPhone application, visit: http://www.nasa.gov/iphone or you can download the app from the iTunes Store here.

Auto Upload Dreamweaver Files
Do you use Adobe Dreamweaver to create and design websites? Is Dreamweaver no longer automatically uploading all dependent files when you save a page? We use Adobe Dreamweaver to create methodshop.com and this always seems to trip us up everyone couple years or so.Chances are you probably were messing around with your Dreamweaver Preferences or accidentally checked the "Don't Ask Me Again" check during the "putting" process.
PROBLEM: Dreamweaver fails to prompt for including dependent files when putting
SOLUTION: This is an easy fix. If you want to be prompted to upload dependent files, then you'll need to turn on the "Prompt on Put/Check In" preference. Just follow the directions below:
Requirements:
- Dreamweaver 3 or higher (Mac/PC)

1. Choose Edit > Preferences.
2. Select the Site category.
3. Under Dependent Files, check Prompt on Put/Check In.

It works! Ballmer Demos Windows 7 on the TODAY Show [video]
Fresh off the heels of Apple's new product announcements this week, Microsoft released their new operating system, Windows 7 today.
Microsoft CEO, Steve Ballmer, even stopped by the American morning program, the TODAY Show, to show off the new OS to co-anchor Matt Lauer [video].
Ballmer took on some tough questions from Lauer including:
- Can consumers use the iPhone to satisfy all their computing needs?
- Will Windows 7 get the same lukewarm reaction to Microsoft's previous operating system, Vista?
- Is Ballmer envious of Apple's "cool" image?

VHS to DVD converters - a round-up
Do you have a bunch of VHS tapes sitting on a shelf gathering dust, but you're not about to toss them out because you spent a bunch of money on them, love the movies, but aren't ready to spend more money to replace them with DVDs?Well convert 'em! GizmosForGeeks.com put together a quick round-up of a few products that will help you convert your VHS paperweights to DVDs. For starters, companies like Panasonic have VHS/DVD combo player-recorders that are the simplest to use, but are the most expensive of the bunch.
The other solutions are software/hardware combos that can not only convert VHS tapes but pretty much any video source to a variety of digital formats. The Honestech VHS to DVD (which does not have the best name) can convert practically any analog source you can feed into its converter box, and has some very nice software to manage the process as well.
If you have more than 5 to 10 tapes, then it quickly becomes worth it to spend a bit of money on one of these up front and not $10+ on each of the DVD replacements.
here's more info on the VHS to DVD software.

I'm sure if you thought of it, you could easily come up with over 100 different sites and services that require a username and password. LL is set to launch next month (April 2009).

Remix NIN Single in GarageBand
Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails has posted the band's new single, "The Hand That Feeds," as a free download for Apple's GarageBand application. The song, which weighs in at a hefty 70MB, features multiple tracks that you can easily tweak. "For quite some time I've been interested in the idea of allowing you the ability to tinker around with my tracks -- to create remixes, experiment, embellish or destroy what's there," Reznor says.
"After spending some quality time sitting in hotel rooms on a press tour, it dawned on me that the technology now exists and is already in the hands of some of you. I got to work experimenting and came up with something I think you'll enjoy."
Fans are encouraged to build their own songs out of the NIN track's constituent parts, or just mess around to their heart's content.
